Symmetry

I have a bunch of things that I will like to blog about, including the trip to NYC in 2011 and a couple of backdated events. But I decided to skip them over for now and write a little about some of the cafes I visited recently. First up, brunch at Symmetry!

Symmetry is about a 10 minutes walk from Bugis MRT Station. Head towards the direction of Haji Lane / Arab Street and you should be able to locate the street, Jalan Kubor, very easily.

Spot these four words and you are there!

We got there at around 1 plus and the place was rather packed, but we were still able to get a table immediately. I have to say I really like the atmosphere and decor of the place, it was unfortunately a little noisy with the lunch crowd.

KA-POW

The walls are decorated with some modern art pieces, can you see the drawing of Obama in a cheongsam in the background? Maybe it is meant to symbolise America's "marriage" or relations with China, with the former taking on the role of a wife? Hahah I have absolutely no idea what it means, but fascinating nonetheless. I think that some of the drawings are for sale, definitely worth taking a look!

Anyway, on to the food!

The food there is tasty and enjoyable, albeit slightly pricey. Our brunch mains cost us a little more than $20 per dish. We ordered a cup of Green Tea Latte too, it is however rather underwhelming and nothing to write home about.

My Breakfast Croissant

Since I am not a very adventurous ( aka: boring ) person, I ordered the Breakfast Croissant and it is definitely no plain Jane as its name seems to suggest. The croissant itself is very fresh, with its crisp shell and fluffy dough. Eggs were scrambled well and were not overly-runny, and the avocado added a buttery and smoother texture to the otherwise plain ham.

Truffle Eggs and Mushroom

My friend ordered the Truffle Eggs and Mushroom, which is served with bacon and toast. Perhaps they were overly enthusiastic with the truffle oil, everything was drenched and soaking in the oil. It tastes great in the beginning, but it eventually got very overwhelming.

Side Note: Truffle oil is actually created by perfumists and very much hated by most chefs, a lesson we learnt from watching MasterChef. You can read more about it here.

All in all, Symmetry is worth the visit for its food and vibe, but I have heard that the queues are pretty long on the weekends, so you've been warned!
