The Diner (Taipei)

The Diner is probably one of my favourite eateries in Taiwan, maybe even surpassing that Michelin star global brand. Some may cry foul over the blasphemy of having western food instead of local cuisine while in Taiwan, but food shouldn't be limited by geographical boundaries right? By the large crowd that was in the restaurant, it seems that I am not the only one impressed by this unassuming restaurant.

We went in around 10:30am without making a reservation and we were lucky that they still had seats available. The place was completely occupied by the next 20 minutes or so!

They have a wide array of dishes and we can choose from a breakfast, lunch and dinner menu, so it was a major headache trying to decide on what to order. This is what we settled on:

Pancakes and an omelette! The banana pancakes, scrambled eggs and bacon are actually a set on its own. That is how generous they are with their serving size! You can choose between bacon, ham and sausage actually, and the choice was obvious for us.

Hog Heaven Omelette - NT270

We got a very porky omelette, it has bacon, ham and sausage. My favourite ingredient in the omelette has to be the cheese though! Again, they were very generous and the whole omelette was oozing with cheese. For the potato side, there is a choice of Hash Browns or Potatoes O' Brien. We got the hash browns (even though it is more of a rosti to me), it is good - crispy and not oily!

Banana and Chocolate Syrup Pancakes - NT320

The pancakes were a little on the thick side, but still very enjoyable. I do wonder if anyone will be able to finish both slices of pancakes and the scrambled eggs side all by themselves though, seems like such a feat!

Oddly enough, our drinks were the last to arrive and we were already halfway done with our food.

Matcha Latte - NT150

Nutella Milkshake - NT180 (Large size)

Look at that Nutella Milkshake and tell me if it was worth the wait or not! Milkshakes are such indulgent drinks and this is definitely worth all of its calories. Thick, not overly milky and sweet, and topped with burnt marshmallows, it can do no wrong. The Matcha Latte is decent, but was overshadowed by the milkshake unfortunately.

After a couple of days of mediocre hotel breakfast, it is easy to see why we enjoyed this breakfast meal so much. With such an extensive menu, we barely touched the surface of all that this restaurant has to offer, I NEED to visit The Diner again the next time we visit Taiwan again!

They have a few branches but the one I went to was at the Xinyi District at ATT 4 Fun, which is within walking distance from Taipei 101.
